Health Considerations

Belgian Malinois are generally a robust and athletic breed with a typical lifespan of about 10–14 years. Like many medium-to-large breeds, they can be predisposed to certain health issues, including hip and elbow dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), cataracts, and certain neurological conditions such as epilepsy. Some individuals may also be prone to allergies or skin sensitivities, and very active dogs can experience soft-tissue injuries if not conditioned and warmed up properly.
