Bulldog
Gentle and dependable, known for their wrinkled face.
Temperament
The Bulldog is a calm, courageous, and deeply loyal companion, known for its dignified yet friendly nature. They tend to be affectionate with their family, often forming strong bonds and enjoying relaxed time on the couch. While they can be stubborn, consistent, patient training and positive reinforcement help bring out their gentle, easygoing personality.
Health Considerations
Bulldogs are prone to several health conditions, many of which are linked to their brachycephalic build and heavy, compact body. Common concerns include brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome (BOAS), which can cause breathing difficulties, snoring, and intolerance to heat and exercise. They are also at higher risk for skin fold infections, allergies, hip and elbow dysplasia, patellar luxation, eye problems (such as cherry eye and dry eye), and dental issues due to their jaw structure. The average Bulldog lifespan typically ranges from about 8 to 10 years, though some live longer with careful management and responsible breeding. Regular veterinary checkups—ideally at least twice a year—are essential for monitoring weight, breathing, skin health, and joint function. Owners should work closely with a veterinarian experienced with brachycephalic breeds, maintain a healthy weight, avoid overheating, and consider pet insurance due to the potential for higher medical costs over a Bulldog’s lifetime.
