Basset Hound

Temperamento

Basset Hounds are known for their friendly and laid-back temperament, making them great family pets. They are affectionate and loyal, often forming strong bonds with their owners. While they enjoy a good romp, they tend to have moderate energy levels, preferring lounging around the house as much as they enjoy outdoor adventures. Their gentle nature and patience make them particularly good with children and other pets.

Consideraciones de Salud

Basset Hounds are generally healthy but can be prone to certain hereditary and breed-specific health issues. Due to their long backs and short legs, they are at risk for intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), which can cause pain and mobility issues. Their droopy ears make them susceptible to ear infections, so regular cleaning is essential. Obesity is another concern since this breed has a strong appetite but can be less active, leading to joint strain and other complications. Recommended screenings include hip and elbow evaluations, eye exams, and thyroid testing. Their lifespan typically ranges between 10 to 12 years. Preventive care involves maintaining an ideal weight through proper diet and exercise, routine veterinary check-ups, and grooming practices such as cleaning their ears and trimming nails to avoid injuries.
