Border Collie

El Border Collie es considerado la raza de perro más inteligente, destacando en el pastoreo.

Temperamento

The Border Collie is an exceptionally intelligent, energetic, and task‑oriented dog with a strong instinct to work and please. Highly responsive and focused, they form deep bonds with their families but can be reserved with strangers. Their workaholic nature means they are happiest when given a job, consistent training, and plenty of mental and physical challenges.

Consideraciones de Salud

Border Collies are generally healthy, athletic dogs with an average lifespan of about 12–15 years when well cared for. However, they can be predisposed to certain hereditary conditions such as hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA), progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), and epilepsy. Some lines may also carry the MDR1 gene mutation, which can cause sensitivity to certain medications, and a condition known as Border Collie Collapse (BCC), which is exercise-induced. Responsible breeders screen their dogs for orthopedic and eye diseases and may perform genetic testing for known mutations. Routine veterinary checkups, weight management, regular exercise, and parasite prevention all help maintain long-term health. Owners should watch for changes in gait, vision, behavior, or tolerance to exercise and consult a veterinarian promptly if concerns arise.
