Consideraciones de Salud
Dalmatians are generally healthy dogs with a typical lifespan of about 11–13 years, though some live longer with good care. One of the most well-known health concerns in the breed is congenital deafness, which can affect one or both ears; responsible breeders usually perform BAER (Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response) testing on puppies to screen for hearing issues. The breed also has a unique uric acid metabolism that can predispose them to urinary stones and related urinary tract problems, especially in males. Other potential health concerns include allergies, skin irritations, hip dysplasia, and eye issues such as cataracts. Regular veterinary checkups, including dental care and screening tests as recommended for age and health status, are essential for early detection and management of issues. Maintaining a healthy weight, providing regular exercise, ensuring ample fresh water, and following a diet approved by your veterinarian are key steps to supporting your Dalmatian’s long-term health.
