Mastín Inglés
El Mastín Inglés es una de las razas más grandes, conocida por su naturaleza gentil y protectora.
Temperamento
The English Mastiff is a dignified, calm, and deeply devoted companion, known for its gentle and good-natured disposition with family members. Despite their massive size, they are typically docile and patient, yet naturally protective and courageous when they sense a real threat. With proper socialization, they are polite with strangers and tolerant of children, though their size demands careful supervision.
Consideraciones de Salud
Like many giant breeds, the English Mastiff is predisposed to certain health conditions, including hip and elbow dysplasia, cruciate ligament issues, heart disease (such as dilated cardiomyopathy), and bloat (gastric dilatation-volvulus). They may also be prone to eye conditions, some cancers, obesity, and degenerative joint disease as they age. Responsible breeders screen their dogs for orthopedic, cardiac, and ocular problems to reduce the risk of passing on hereditary issues. The typical lifespan of an English Mastiff is around 7–10 years, with some individuals living longer under excellent care. Regular veterinary checkups—at least annually, and more often for seniors—are crucial for monitoring weight, joint health, heart function, and early signs of disease. Preventive care, including vaccinations, parasite control, dental care, and a carefully managed diet and exercise plan, plays a major role in preserving the health and comfort of this gentle giant.
