Mastiff
Temperamento
Mastiffs are known for their gentle and calm temperament, making them excellent companions for families. They are typically very affectionate with their loved ones, often forming strong bonds with children and other pets. Despite their large size, they tend to be quite laid-back and prefer lounging around the house to excessive physical activity, although they do enjoy regular walks. Their protective nature makes them vigilant guardians, but they are not aggressive unless provoked.
Consideraciones de Salud
Mastiffs are generally healthy dogs; however, they are prone to certain health issues due to their size and genetics. Common concerns include hip and elbow dysplasia, which can lead to mobility issues, as well as heart conditions such as dilated cardiomyopathy. They may also be susceptible to bloat (gastric torsion), a life-threatening condition requiring immediate intervention. Regular veterinary check-ups are essential, and screenings for joint and cardiac health are recommended, especially for breeding dogs. Mastiffs have a lifespan of about 7-10 years. Preventive care like maintaining a healthy weight, feeding them a balanced diet, and providing moderate exercise can help mitigate some risks. Owners should also monitor their Mastiff for skin issues, like irritations or infections, due to their loose folds of skin.
