Pomeranian
Tiny but bold dogs with fluffy coats and fox-like faces.
Temperamento
The Pomeranian is a lively, bold, and inquisitive companion with a confident attitude that often belies its tiny size. Highly alert and naturally vocal, Poms make excellent little watchdogs and love to announce visitors or unusual sounds. They bond closely with their people, enjoying attention and interaction, and can be surprisingly feisty and determined when something captures their interest.
Consideraciones de Salud
Pomeranians are generally long‑lived, with an average lifespan of 12–16 years when well cared for, but like all breeds, they are predisposed to certain health issues. Common concerns include dental disease, patellar luxation (loose kneecaps), tracheal collapse, and heart problems. Their small mouths crowd teeth easily, so regular dental care and professional cleanings are important. Some Poms may also be prone to hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) as puppies, especially if meals are skipped, and to certain eye issues. A less common but notable issue in the breed is alopecia X (sometimes called “black skin disease”), a condition causing coat thinning and hair loss. Working with a reputable breeder who screens for hereditary conditions can reduce the risk of serious problems. Routine veterinary visits at least once a year (more often for seniors), up‑to‑date vaccinations, parasite prevention, and monitoring weight and breathing are essential. Because of their delicate size, preventing falls, rough handling, and obesity is a key part of keeping a Pomeranian healthy throughout its life.
