Consideraciones de Salud

Poodles are generally healthy dogs with a typical lifespan of about 12–15 years for Standards and Miniatures, and often 13–16 years for Toys, when responsibly bred and well cared for. Common health concerns in the breed include hip dysplasia (especially in Standards), patellar luxation (more common in smaller sizes), progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), cataracts, Addison’s disease, epilepsy, and certain skin and ear conditions. Responsible breeders screen their dogs for genetic issues and share health testing results with prospective owners. Regular veterinary checkups, including annual or semiannual exams for older dogs, are crucial for early detection of problems such as dental disease, heart issues, or endocrine disorders. Keeping your Poodle at a healthy weight, staying current on vaccines and parasite prevention, and following your veterinarian’s recommendations for blood tests and eye exams can significantly improve quality of life and longevity.
